Of the group stakes trio slated at Sandown on Friday (25/4), no other starter could possibly match the same hype surrounding WINDLORD. Billed as the 5/4 post-time favourite in the bet365 Classic Trial (GIII), Oisin Murphy sent the three-year-old son of DUBAWI, out of champion racemare GOLDIKOVA, right to the lead, and tried to stay there every step of the way. However, the immaculate Juddmonte homebred was evidently struggling towards the uphill finish, whereas the door instantly opened up for SWAGMAN, a somewhat surprising German colt donning Michael Tabor’s colors, who was rallying superbly under Ryan Moore, and clobbered WINDLORD just strides from the wire to score by three-quarters of a length. Wathnan Racing’s DAMYSUS, with William Buick aboard, was late to the scene and checked in third.

Meanwhile, in the day's undercard, DANCING GEMINI (Kieran Shoemark) and AL AASY (Jim Crowley) found their winning ways respectively in the bet365 Mile (GII) and the Gordon Richards Stakes (GIII) – particularly with DANCING GEMINI, who is clearly forward by leaps and bounds upon this return to the races as a four-year-old this season, and is a force to be reckoned with in the older horse division, with Lockinge and Queen Anne Stakes under its radar.
